With our chemistry students we are doing a fact finding mission about fracking (hydraulic fracturing of shale to claim the natural gas found in the rock fissures) in Ohio. The goal is to make the students experts on this subject and to present some type of public forum on this information using whatever medium the students chose. We will bring in a few experts in the field and then break the students into specific topics (geologic, legal land rights, the biochemistry etc) on this subject to research reliable sources. The students will create videos, music, power points, pamphlets -- whatever gets the message across. Students need to be informed and share the reliable data with the community.
