[edit] Green Team Initiative
Volunteer 4th and 5th graders who recycle twice a week at afternoon recess. This group brainstorms ways to educate our student body on reducing, reusing, and recycling. Some ideas so far have been flash mob in the cafeteria that promotes less waste. Last year we weighed trash from lunch and then gave tips and weighed trash again to see if there was a difference. We want our students to come up with ideas for the future.

[edit] Connecting Economics and the Issue of Homelessness
Students will be designing, marketing, and selling a product as part of their economics unit. In Language arts class, they will be reading about, researching, and discussing to answer the following: What are the basic needs of humans? Why do people become homeless? What can we do to help? After learning what the needs are, they will use the money made from their sales and plan out in math class the best way to spend it, based on what they learned about the needs. We will culminate with a trip to Walmart and the Friends of the Homeless shelter to drop off and have a tour.
